Winter Beauty Wishlist | 2016

These are the top five beauty items I'd like to add to my collection this season. The last few months, I've been really expanding my collection because of all the new launches. Just when I thought it was time to slow down, there were three launches I got super excited about, a skincare item with rave reviews I want to try for myself, and a recommended blush. My poor, poor wallet.

LA Girl Pro Coverage Foundation - There's nothing I love more than discovering new affordable foundations. This has the stamp of approval from both Tati Westbrook and Kathleen Lights, both whose opinions I trust. My skin has been extremely dry again this winter so my other foundations are appearing a bit cakey on my skin. What better time than now to try out an illuminating foundation?

Too Faced HangoveRX Primer - I got a little baby sized sample of this fabulous primer. It feels so lovely on my now dry skin. As soon as I can, I'm running to Sephora to purchase the full-size product!

Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Light - I've realized my collection is extremely lacking in the contour powder department. In Kathleen's Best of Beauty 2016 video, she mentioned this powder as being the perfect tone for her. Kathleen and I have the same skin tone and shade when she is not fake tanned so I'm confident it will work for me as well. It is a very pricey product, but I plan on using a gift card I got for Christmas.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser - I'm in need of a new, gentle cleanser to add to my morning routine. All my morning cleansers seem to be drying out my skin more, not so great now, but in the summer when I bought them and my skin was an oily mess, it didn't effect me. Anyone else have skin that flip flops from one extreme to the other? Super frustrating!

NYX Angel Veil Primer - I'm a bit primer crazy right now. I've heard great things about this primer from the drugstore. If it's comparable to the Hourglass Veil primer, which I already know I like, then I think this is a safe bet.

What's on your beauty wish list right now?

Recap | 6 Goals for 2016

For me, the end of the year is a time of reflection. To look back on what I've accomplished and what I could do better. Today's post is a bit of a round-up on how I did on the goals I made at the beginning of the year. [I've linked the original post so give that a quick read first as I won't be re-posting them here.]

Fitness/Health - I was actually doing pretty well with going to the gym consistently until around September. I was following a bodybuilding style routine and really enjoyed it. My pregnancy symptoms have kept me away since which has really sucked. All I'm able to do now if basically walk, which I'm not going to drive to the gym to walk on the treadmill when I can just go for a stroll around the neighbourhood. Note to self: cancel gym membership, it's now a waste of money. I still do not drink enough water, but on the days I went to the gym I definitely hit that goal. On my days off, I ate a mostly plant-based diet until the boys got home. I know many 'vegans' may not see this as an excuse but I honestly cannot justify cooking two separate meals; one for me and one for them. I'm still proud of eating much less animal products than I used to.

Friends/Family - I'm still really horrible at keeping in touch, and making time to go visit people. Forgive me :(

Finances - I have increased my savings contributions, but I'm still missing my goals by a long shot. I have yet to set up an RRSP and an RESP for Maxwell.

Education - I actually have not completed my degree by the end of this year like I planned. I literally have one more course to finish, which has a deadline of February 28th. So technically I didn't complete this goal either but I almost did. My graduation date is the same regardless of whether I had finished before December 31, so it doesn't really matter. I also didn't complete my Canadian Securities course yet, which will look great on my resume once I achieve this. I am however, enrolled and working through it. So again, I didn't meet the goal but I'm well on my way.

Career - Yup, still don't have a position in my field of study. A lot had to do with anxiety about leaving my current job, where I know how to do it well, and know everyone there etc. which kept me from even applying to other positions. I have now decided to stay where I am to ensure a maternity leave in the spring. So this goal is now postponed until 2018.

Blog/YouTube - I totally failed at posting twice a week, every week here on my blog which I feel immensely guilty about - especially because I enjoy it so much. I was trying to be an adult and have my 'priorities in order' but ended up sacrificing a lot that made me happy. The same goes for my YouTube channel, I do have a few videos up but I definitely don't post consistently and I should.

I seem to have been more successful in some aspects of my life in terms of goals in 2016, and less in others. I suppose that's pretty common. I definitely have things to continue to strive for in 2017 and will keep pushing forward, but that's a post for another time. How did you do on your goals/resolutions over the past year?

December Ipsy Bag | 2016

The last Ipsy bag of the year. Ironically, the last Ipsy post on this blog was the first bag of the year. This month's theme is 'carpe p.m.', a clever play on words. As loud and not me this month's bag is - I kind of love it! It would be a great party clutch if you were in a pinch. It's texture reminds me of faux pony hair, like that on leopard print shoes.

Benefit POREfessional Primer - This is one of my favourite pore filling primers. It provides a smoother base to apply foundation. Having a sample size will be great for if I travel anywhere.

Nip + Fab Exfoliate Glycolic Fix Serum - I've heard great things about this brand. This serum is said to improve texture, smooth fine lines and wrinkles and visibly reduce the appearance of pores. It's claims are similar to the Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment.

Ouai Wave Spray - Ouai seems to be becoming quite the popular brand. I'm excited to try this out and see how it differs to other wave sprays I've tried in the past which were more along the lines of sea salt sprays that made your hair feel dirty and sticky.

Tarte Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in WCW - These sounds awfully similar to the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints which are a fraction of the cost. However, I have yet to try this Tarte one so I can't say definitively. This shade is a beautiful berry tone - perfect for the winter months. I'm becoming more and more of a gloss girl as well which is shocking - even to me.

M Princess Eyeshadow in Melting Maple - This is a gorgeous loose, copper eyeshadow - super reflective. I'm not one to usually fuss with loose eyeshadows, but I may be convinced to play around with this one. You guys know how much I love my warm tones!

This month's bag was another 5/5 for me. Ipsy has really been hitting it out of the park! 4/5 of the brands were high end, and well known, which rarely happens. What did you get in your Ipsy bag this month?

My oh my, it has been a long time. I cannot believe I haven't posted in over 2 months!

Recently I found myself saying things like "In the new year, I'm going to get back into blogging." Well, why do I have to wait to do something until it's a New Years Resolution? I don't! So here I am.

This post is going to just be a bit of an update on what's been going on / a list of my excuses for being a shitty blogger. Here we go:

My last semester of university EVER (assuming I passed all exams) kicked my ass so hard! Not only were they the hardest courses of my degree, but they also had nothing to do with the direction I plan on taking my degree. This made it extremely difficult to remain any information and stay motivated to complete the work.

Jeremy and I are expecting our second child! With this comes A LOT of changes in our life. Also, thus far, this pregnancy has been the pregnancy from hell. I thought I was sick with Max - that was child's play. The first trimester I could hardly go an hour or two without being sick. I've been much more tired this time around - probably because I have Max to take care of as well. Lastly, super low blood pressure - meaning I faint frequently hitting my head off things and almost knocking my bottom teeth out. Seems wonderful huh?

Maxwell started school in September. That kid now has more of a social life than me (doesn't take much I suppose)! Also, the way Jeremy and I arranged childcare means I had less time kid-free than when Max was in preschool. Kid-free time is essential to maintaining a blog and YouTube channel.

So, now that the semester is over and I have more energy, I have more time to do things I enjoy doing - like talking with you guys. Please let me know what you'd like to see from me blog and YouTube wise in the comments below.

Basically - Hi, it's me. I'm back.

ColourPop Haul | KathleenLights Collab & More

When ColourPop sent out the email promoting their amazing Labour Day sale, I immediately jumped online to place an order. I've been waiting for the perfect time to pick up the latest ColourPopxKathleenLights products, and because I patiently bided my time, I got two free Ultra Matte Lips which is a fabulous deal!

Crème Gel Liner in Mr. Bing - Ever since these liners launched I've wanted to try them [I feel like I say that about every ColourPop launch], especially the bright shades. I picked up Mr. Bing to try out the formula first before I went all crazy and bought ten shades. Mr. Bing is a beautiful warm brown shade, I actually have nothing like it in my collection, which is awesome! I feel the warm undertone of the product really compliments the undertone of my skin. Also, I choose the pencil over the potted liner because I heard the formula was better, I don't need both, and I use pencils way more often.

 [L-R: Point Zero, Alyssa, November]
Ultra Satin Lip in Point Zero - This super cool-toned brown shade is waaayy out of my comfort zone. But I bought it anyway because 1 I love supporting Kathleen's collabs and 2 I could use a little shove out of my comfort zone every once in a while.

Ultra Satin Lip in Alyssa - Dusty pinks are one of my go-to shades in the fall. I have a ton of other lip products in this colour family but, what's one more?

Ultra Satin Lip in November - I wish I picked up with warm peachy-pink shade when these first came out. Even though, I feel that it's more of a spring/summer shade, I plan on wearing this a ton this fall as well. Makeup has no rule, right?

[L-R: Time Square, Love Bug, Fairy Floss]
Ultra Matte Lip in Time Square - For some reason I cannot find this shade on the website anymore. Time Square is a deep rosy shade, this is another product that I probably have a ton of similar shades, but what can I say? It was free :) !

Ultra Matte Lip in Love Bug - This shade is the perfect terracotta in the tube, but swatched on my arm it appears much darker. I'm really into these kinds of shades this fall, at least on other people. I'm a little nervous to try and pull this off myself. Here I am, needing another shove out of my comfort zone. The swatch, after about half an hour, started crumbling off my arm as it was drying. Not sure how this is going to wear on the lips. This is the other shade I received for free with my order.

Ultra Glossy Lip in Fairy Floss - This pale pinky-beige gloss is very sheer and will layer well on top of other lip products, or it's great for a natural look. It's very similar in colour, not formula, to my Buxom gloss in White Russian. This is another launch that I restrained myself from picking up a ton of shades before I tested out the formula.

Let me know in the comments below if you'd like a full review on any of these formulas from ColourPop. What should I try next?

Emily ♥

PS: Sorry about the picture quality. I took these late last night, and as I was editting them, the colours weren't remaining true to what they actually looked like in person. So I'm posting the un-editted pictures.

BoxyCharm Unboxing | July 2016

This is the second BoxyCharm to ever ship to Canada! I unboxed the June one over on my YouTube channel HERE if you're interested. I would have filmed this as well, but I received the box super late last month, and then early this month so there was only one video in between. But, I still wanted to share with you what I got, so I'm throwing up a blog post for you :), told ya we were going old school over here on my blog. I couldn't have been more excited when BoxyCharm announced they were expanding into Canada, and I have not been disappointed with the subscription thus far!

This month's theme is 'Modern Merbabe.'

Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner in Ice Blue - $18 - This frosty, ice blue shade would add a beautiful pop of colour to your waterline. I swatched this on my arm, left it for only a few minutes, and really struggled to remove it with eye makeup remover. I do think this performs well for a waterproof liner, I have yet to try it on my eyes, but I think it will be fun to try at the pool of beach.

PYT Hair Oil Treatment - $30 - This claims to prevent split ends and create shine without an oily residue, apply and style as desired. Though I love hair oils, I am a bit skeptical. Every one that I've tried has made my hair look disgusting, no matter how little I apply. So I only apply them a few hours before I plan on washing my hair. I will give this a go to see if it's greasy or not, but it will definitely be on a day I don't have to leave my house.

Noyah Lip Gloss in Malbec - $16 - A natural lip gloss with a packaging made from earth-friendly bamboo. I've received a Noyah lipstick in an Ipsy bag before and liked it so, I'm excited to give this a try. I do think the shade name is misleading, it's not a deep wine shade, more of a bright fuschia.

[Top: Iron, Smoke, Buttercup; Bottom: Bohemian, Truffle, Millennium Gold]

Ofra Professional Magnetic Palette- $59 - I was pumped to receive this magnetic palette in my box, I've been needing another anyway, and there is also six eyeshadows included! They've provided a mix of cool and warm tones, matte and shimmer shades. I was floored by the pigmentation of Bohemian and Truffle. Iron and Millennium Gold were just alright, and I wasn't impressed by Smoke of Buttercup much at all. It does say these can be used wet or dry, so maybe with some Fix + they will perform better.

There were only four items in the box this month, where there are usually five. However, we received a magnetic palette with six shadows included, worth almost $60, that has to be worth more than one product. I'm happy with everything I received, I cannot wait to play with everything!

The box was worth $123USD, and you pay $21USD for it. That's pretty good value for money if you ask me!

Are you Canadian? Have you subscribed to BoxyCharm yet?
